Pelvic Pain Conditions
Persistent pelvic pain is a hidden problem. We can’t see it; it’s hard to diagnose – and for various reasons, people often suffer for many years before seeking help. The term ‘persistent pelvic pain’ can refer to many things. It’s a general term that describes all pain experienced in the pelvic region. This can include the pelvic area, lower abdomen, bladder, coccyx, anus and genitals.
If you have pelvic pain, often you may also notice changes in your bladder or bowel function or have pain during sex.
This type of pain is more common than you may think, affecting one in five women and one in 10 men. It can be highly distressing, both physically and emotionally. It can negatively affect daily activities, exercise, socialising, work, study, intimate relationships, sleep – almost anything. You might be avoiding enjoyable activities, staying home, taking days off school or work, or worrying about the future.
Understanding your pelvic pain
The pelvis is unique as it's home to our important reproductive organs, bladder and bowel. And as all these organs are not often talked about, those experiencing pain in their pelvis can feel even more distressed and isolated.
You might experience pain with your period, pain when your bladder is full, pain with bowel motions or perhaps coccyx pain when you sit.
We don’t always know what causes pelvic pain. But it might be associated with conditions such as endometriosis, painful bladder syndrome, interstitial cystitis, pudendal neuralgia, coccydynia, vaginismus or vulvodynia. Alternatively, it may begin after a stressful life event.
At Pelvic Health Matters, we know all about pelvic pain. Fortunately, most pelvic pain can be managed or cured with the proper treatment. So, if you’re having problems, we’re here to help. We’ll work in conjunction with your doctor or refer you to one if needed. Don’t suffer alone, contact us soon. We’re confident that our proven pathway is the best way to restore your pelvic health and live your best life.
