Pelvic Organ Prolapse

When everything’s working as it should, we hardly notice our pelvic organs – let alone where they’re positioned. But when things aren’t going so well, it’s a different story.

Issues affecting the support of our pelvic organs are common. They can affect any one of us at any age, and impact our lives in many ways. Almost any part of life — daily activities, exercise, socialising, work — can be impacted. You might find it hard to stand all day at work. Perhaps you’re avoiding exercise or worrying about intimacy. Or maybe you can't lift your grandchild or go on that long hike with your friends.

Understanding Prolapse

In every pelvis there is a bladder, urethra, bowel and rectum. And if you have female biology, you’ll also have a uterus and vagina. They are all held in place by connective tissue from above and supported by the pelvic floor below.

Sometimes, though, life stages like pregnancy, birth and menopause — or activities such as heavy lifting or health conditions like chronic constipation and straining can compromise the position of the bladder, bowel and uterus.

When there is reduced support of a pelvic organ from either above or below, one or more of these organs can move down from their normal position, often into the front or back of the vaginal wall. This can result in a dragging or heavy sensation, or for some, awareness of a bulge at the vaginal opening.

At Pelvic Health Matters, we understand pelvic organ prolapse. And we’re here to help you with yours. So if you’re experiencing symptoms, contact us soon. We’re confident that our proven pathway is the best way to restore your pelvic health and live your best life.

Our Proven Pathway to Treating Prolapse

Discover
what matters

  • Complete an online pelvic health questionnaire – so we can better understand your prolapse symptoms.
  • You'll have a 1-on-1 consultation – we’ll listen to your story because it’s not just about the physical stuff. It’s about discovering all the contributing factors. Then, we’ll conduct a clinical assessment, which may include a pelvic floor examination, a prolapse, bladder or bowel diary, and an ultrasound.
  • Together, we’ll set meaningful health goals – like, “To be able to lift my grandchild without feeling uncomfortable”, “To be able to go on a hike with my friends without having to rest halfway through” or “To prevent having surgery for my prolapse”.
  • Explore what’s been discovered - and how it all fits together.
