Endometriosis and Adenomyosis
If our body works well, we don’t think much about our uterus or periods and we don’t think much about painful conditions such as endometriosis and adenomyosis. But if we do suffer from either of these conditions, they can cause considerable distress – both physically and emotionally.
Endometriosis and Adenomyosis are common. But this doesn’t mean they are easy to live with. They can negatively impact our lives in many ways – from daily activities, exercise and socialising to work and even intimate relationships. Almost everything can be affected. You might also have to take time off study or work because of intense pain.
Understanding endometriosis and adenomyosis
During your period, the lining of the uterus (endometrial tissue) is shed. When this happens, it causes normal vaginal bleeding that is often mildly painful. But if you suffer from endometriosis or adenomyosis, things can get a lot more painful.
- Endometriosis is where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows in other parts of the body outside the uterus. For example, tissue may grow around the ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining the pelvis.
- Adenomyosis is when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus is also present in the muscular wall of the uterus.
In both cases, this extra endometrial tissue also bleeds with menstruation, which can cause extreme pain and interfere with your life. You might experience terribly painful periods, pelvic pain, painful sex, bladder or bowel problems and general fatigue. Sometimes, even after surgery or medication to stop your periods, you may experience ongoing pelvic pain. This can impact your ability to work, study, be intimate, and do the things you enjoy.
At Pelvic Health Matters, we know all about endometriosis and adenomyosis. We help people with it daily and are here to help you, too. In conjunction with your doctor, we can help you better manage the symptoms of these conditions. And if required, we can help you prepare for and recover from surgery.
So, if you’re having painful periods or pelvic pain problems, don’t suffer alone, contact us soon. We’re confident that our proven pathway is the best way to restore your pelvic health, relieve you from pain and live your best life.
